Effect of contrast dose, post-contrast acquisition time, myocardial regionality, cardiac cycle and gender on dynamic-equilibrium CMR measurement of myocardial extracellular volume

چکیده
Background CMR techniques are increasingly being used to evaluate myocardial extracellular volume (ECV). In the most commonly applied method, ECV is quantified using haematocrit-adjusted myocardial and blood T1 values measured before and after gadolinium bolus. The technique is based on a two-compartment model, assuming contrast kinetic effects to be negligible due to a dynamic equilibrium between blood and myocardium (Dynamic-Equilibrium CMR; DynEq-CMR). This study aimed to assess the effect

Cardiac T1 mapping in congenital heart disease: bolus versus infusion protocol for measurement of myocardial extracellular volume
Background Measurement of myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV) with T1 mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) before and after the application of a gadolinium-based extracellular contrast agent enables the assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis. The equilibrium between blood and myocardium contrast concentration required for ECV measurements can be achieved with a primed contrast...
متن کاملT1 mapping for myocardial extracellular volume measurement by CMR: bolus only versus primed infusion technique.
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to determine the accuracy of the contrast "bolus only" T1 mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) technique for measuring myocardial extracellular volume fraction (ECV). BACKGROUND Myocardial ECV can be measured with T1 mapping before and after contrast agent if the contrast agent distribution between blood/myocardium is at equilibrium. Equilibrium distri...
متن کاملT1 mapping for myocardial extracellular volume measurement by cardiovascular magnetic resonance: bolus only vs primed infusion technique
Background Myocardial ECV can be measured using T1 mapping before and after contrast if the contrast agent distribution between blood:myocardial is at equilibrium. Equilibrium distribution can be achieved with a primed contrast infusion (EQ-CMR), or may be approximated by the dynamic equilibration achieved by delayed post bolus measurement. This bolus only approach is highly attractive but curr...
متن کاملLetter by Iles and Taylor regarding article, "Comprehensive validation of cardiovascular magnetic resonance techniques for the assessment of myocardial extracellular volume".
BACKGROUND Extracellular matrix expansion is a key element of ventricular remodeling and a potential therapeutic target. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T1-mapping techniques are increasingly used to evaluate myocardial extracellular volume (ECV); however, the most widely applied methods are without histological validation. Our aim was to perform comprehensive validation of (1) dynamic-...
متن کاملCardiac amyloid burden assessment by T1 mapping predicts survival in patients with systemic AL amyloidosis - a 2 year follow-up study
Background Cardiac involvement drives outcome in systemic AL amyloidosis. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) CMR is useful for the detection of cardiac amyloid, but characteristic LGE patterns do not always occur or may appear late in the disease. Using CMR T1 mapping, we measured the pre contrast myocardial T1 and myocardial Extracellular Volume (ECV), reflecting myocardial amyloidosis burden a...
